PostBox visits your doorstep
Did you know that 'somewhere' cradles a life-sized impression of SpongeBob Squarepants, ‘somewhere’ boasts the largest pier in the southern hemisphere, and ‘somewhere’ carries an establishment serving the largest range of imported and local beers and serves up the best Pad Thai in Australia? If not, do not fear, because The Great Australian Doorstep is here.
That's right, St Kilda Saints, Hawthorn Hawks and Sydney Swans retired AFL player extraordinaire, Peter 'Spida' Everitt, has teamed up with his family this time to explore the more provincial areas of the Australian outback and coastline.
Unlike any other outback series, these two dared to venture where little do (and with a camera crew) - to the smaller unknown Australian towns discovering the hidden treasures, the locals, the irregular sights, covered by ever useful and always entertaining ‘travel tips’ for the adventure. The post production of the 13 part series covering 10,000 km of the Western Coast of Australia was handled at the PostBox headquarters under an extremely tight deadline and challenging conditions.
PostBox picked up the series with episode 6. From there on, PostBox was inundated with XDCAM EX & P2 footage delivered on ruggered hard drives in FCP format. The team seamlessly converted the FCP project to Avid DNxHD with the Automatic Duck plug-in. The tapeless workflow allowed PostBox to be in the edit suites within hours of receiving the rushes, absolutely necessary for the tight turnaround and catch up time at hand. Episode 6 was delivered the day before on-air. By the time episode 13 was completed, PostBox had extended the series lead time to 5 weeks even with the festive season interruptions.
Pre-production has already begun on series 2 of the Great Australian Doorstep. PostBox is excited by the next series potential and is looking forward to propelling its popularity in the upcoming season airing in July 2009.
